It is the mission of the Rutland Police Department to provide quality police services in partnership with our community. To protect life and property, maintain public safety and security, and to preserve the Town of Rutland's exceptional quality of life with emphasis on integrity, fairness, compassion, and professionalism.
The Rutland Police Department embraces the ideals of community policing. We believe in creating and maintaining community partnerships in order to take a problem-solving approach to proactively address public safety issues such as crime, social disorder, and fear of crime.
The Rutland Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for the Town of Rutland, responsible for the safety of all persons in the Town through the enforcement of criminal and traffic laws, proactive patrols, criminal investigations, emergency response and the development of community partnerships. The department currently consists of 15 sworn full-time officers, 3 sworn part-time officers, 2 special police officers, 1 full-time administrative assistant, and animal control personnel. We service a population of approximately 9500 people, covering an area of 36.4 square miles.
