Firearms licensing

When and Where

The Rutland Police Department processes licenses to carry (LTC) and firearms identification cards (FID) applications on Wednesday evenings between the hours of 4:00pm and 8:00pm. The address of the police station is 242 Main St, Rutland, MA 01543.

Fees

  • Application and Renewal fee for LTC and FID is $100
  • FID applicants under age 18 fee is $25
  • LTC renewals for law enforcement officers is $25
  • LTC/FID renewals age 70 or over - no fee. 

What to Bring

First Time Applicants: 

  • Completed Application
  • Basic Firearms Safety Certificate OR Massachusetts Hunter Education Course Certificate
  • Copy of birth certificate and social security card
  • FID applicants under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who must present a parental permission certificate to the licensing officer. 
  • Fee paid in cash, check or money order to Town of Rutland


Renewal Applicants

  • Completed Application
  • Most recent LTC or FID card
  • Fee paid in cash, check or money order to Town of Rutland

What to Expect

  • The Licensing Officer will review your application and supporting documentation for completeness. 
  • You may be photographed and fingerprinted. 
  • After you submit your application, the licensing officer will review everything and contact you if there are any questions or concerns. 
  • If approved, your LTC or FID will be ready in about 8 weeks. 
  • The licensing officer will contact you when the LTC or FID is ready. Please do not call the station to inquire if it is in yet.
